About Us
Queens, The World's Borough Inc. is a 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation based in New York City. Its purpose is to support art and cultural projects to pay tribute to Queens' rich and vibrant multi-cultural history.
Mission
Our mission is to celebrate Queens' diversity of people and cultures.
Queens' population of 2,250,000 people holds the Guinness World Record for the "Most diverse urban area on the planet." 48% of its residents are born outside of the United States. There are 138 nationalities represented with 160 languages spoken here. Its residents include a mosaic of different ethnicities and cultures who have chosen to live together in Queens to share their ideas, dreams, history, food, and customs. It is a microcosm of the world.
It is absolutely the best borough in the greatest city in the world. We need to celebrate Queens ethnic and cultural contributions to New York City and the rest of the country.
Queens, The World's Borough
Queens, The World's Borough is a 3D letter sculpture to be located at MacDonald Park, Forest Hills, NY 11375. The park is centrally located in the heart of Queens at the intersection of Queens Boulevard and Yellowstone Boulevard, at one of the major destination and transportation hubs of Queens.
The design pays homage to Queens' tagline, "The World's Borough", to the colors of the Queens' flag founded in 1898, and to American Typewriter font used by the I❤️NY campaign in 1977.
The vision for the sculpture is for people to learn about how Queens is truly the world's borough. Though the tagline has been around for a number of years, it is not widely known by many people. We hope the approachable sculpture, which lends itself to photos and selfies, will be shared among families, friends, colleagues and neighbors.
Popularizing "Queens, The World's Borough" will bring understanding, pride and a smile to all of Queens.
