Overview

Sculpture Specifications​

  • "Queens, The World's Borough" is the name of the 3D letter sculpture. 

  • The dimensions are 6 feet high x 22.75 feet wide x 1.5 feet deep.

  • It weighs approximately 2,000 pounds.

  • The font is American Typewriter, which is the font used by the I❤️NY campaign.

  • The colors are based on the Queens Flag: blue (RGB 0, 132, 255), red (RGB 199, 5, 7) and white (RGB 255, 255, 255).

  • ​​​​​The large 3D letters that spell "Queens" are blue. 

  • The descender tail at the bottom right of the letter "Q" extends below the line of the base letters "ueens". 

  • The red rectangular base will support the letters "ueens". 

  • The white catchphrase, "The World's Borough", is centered on the red rectangular base.

  • The 3D letter sculpture is constructed of steel sheet metal and welded together.

  • The finish work includes bodywork, grinding, hard coating, primer and paint. 

  • The hard coating is outdoor grade, Polyurea ULXT66.

  • The paint is outdoor, weather resistant, latex paint.

  • The sculpture is composed of 3 pieces: "Qu", "ee" and "ns".

  • The base is securely bolted into the concrete pavement with Tapcon concrete screws.

Updates

  • September 6, 2024. NYC Department of Parks & Recreation approved "Queens, The World's Borough" at MacDonald Park for their Art in the Parks program. The tentative exhibition date for the sculpture is March 20, 2025 (1st day of Spring). The exhibit will be at MacDonald Park for a year, to be followed by other Queens locations in the future. 

  • October 31, 2024. Signed agreement with WhiteClouds Inc., the fabricator of Queens, The World's Borough.

  • November 30, 2024. $50,000 estimated budget for the project has been raised or pledged by a sponsor and private donors.

  • December 2024. Launched community outreach.

  • January 21, 2025. The design was finalized and approved. Fabrication began.

  • February 14, 2025. The dedication date for the sculpture will be Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM at MacDonald Park at the corner of Queens Boulevard and Yellowstone Boulevard. There will be a dedication ceremony, music, drinks, snacks, photo ops and other fun things to do. Everyone is welcome!

  • March 12, 2025. Fabrication by WhiteClouds completed.

  • March 18, 2025. Queens, The World's Borough delivered and installed.

  • March 22, 2025, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM, MacDonald Park. Dedication of Queens, The World's Borough.

  • March 8, 2026, 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, MacDonald Park. Queens Sign Community Block Party produced by LIJ Forest Hills, Northwell Heath. Special thanks to Stancy Saji, creator and producer of the event; Program Manager, LIJ Forest Hills Northwell Health.

  • March 23, 2026, "Queens the World's Borough" moved to NY Mets at Citi Field.
